Stourhead takes a good half day or more to explore. Best known for the lake walk and grounds but the house is very interesting and worth visiting. As usual the volunteer staff are on hand to answer questions and they do a sterling job.
The lake walk is very pleasant and there are one or two surprises that i will not spoil here. If you walk straight round it takes roughly 30 minutes, but there are some places where you can stop and just enjoy the view.
The 205 steps to the top of King Alfred's Tower is fun! Great views over Wiltshire, somerset and Dorset.
The National Trust manage the property. The trust received the estate from the of the Hoare family in 1946/7. It was Sir Henry Hoare who designed the lake and garden.
Why not stay at Quiet Woman House and pay Stourhead a visit?
